Jennifer Bourne - Designing Your Business For YOU

4 minute read

I worked with Jennifer Bourne in 2024 when she originally came to me to support her in bringing her new (and second) business idea to life. Early-on I identified the need to address specific energies, strategies and limiting beliefs in her current business in order to make room for her new business. To ensure she had a solid foundation to support her energetically and financially during this growth period.

One of the key changes she implemented was refining her service packages to reflect her own unique vision, client experience and skill set. Releasing her original structure that reflected industry standards challenged her fear of how she thought her business should look like in order to compete. She saw immediate rewards tapping into a new tier of clients and larger brand packages that served her creativity, business goals and overall joy within her business.

I recently sat down with Jennifer Bourne to hear her learnings and insights on building and growing a brand strategy business, here's what she had to say:

Can you share a bit about your background and why you started your business?

From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to art and the act of creating something beautiful. But like many, I wasn’t encouraged to see art as a viable career option. After working in various roles within the tourism and film industries, I stumbled upon design and knew I had to go back to school. It took me some time to realize that design is essentially art for commerce, allowing me to build a career helping people solve problems through design.

What do you love most about working in your business?

I’m passionate about the problem-solving aspect of design and genuinely enjoy helping people. Branding is one of the most critical factors in driving business success, and I love that creating beautiful, strategic brands can make a real impact. There’s nothing quite like handing over a cohesive, pixel-perfect identity system and seeing clients feel energized about their business. It helps them build confidence in their brand, their product or service, and ultimately, in themselves.

Can you share one thing you’ve learned while starting or running your business?

I’ve learned a great deal about life, psychology, people, and design, but one thing that stands out is how challenging change can be. No matter how positive, change often requires adjustment, which has led me to develop strong communication skills to guide clients through the process. I’ve learned how to educate clients so they can make informed decisions and to support them every step of the way. I’m also continually learning—whether it’s new trends in design, innovative tools, best practices, or ways to streamline workflows.

Can you share a limiting belief you challenged and overcame while working together?

I used to believe there was a right and wrong way to start a business, which made me feel like I was failing. Working with you taught me that I can create a business that fully supports my lifestyle and growth. I’ve realized I can show up as my authentic self and infuse that into my business practices.

I’ve also embraced my human design as a generator, focusing on what lights me up and allowing that to guide my decisions. Although the journey isn't linear and doesn't always make sense, I’m having so much more fun in the process.

You are such a great example of someone pursuing their potential. How do you stay motivated and disciplined to keep moving forward?

My motivation has always stemmed from the act of creation and the desire to express my ideas through my work. While I still struggle with discipline, I’m actively learning and working on it every day. I recognize that to achieve my goals, I need to cultivate healthy habits and focus on behavioural changes.

I also believe that no one accomplishes anything in isolation. We all need support, encouragement, and guidance from others. Investing in personal growth—whether through accountability partners, coaching, or addressing limiting beliefs—is essential. I firmly believe that to grow in any area of life, we must first work on ourselves.
